CityEngine Welcomes Mac Users!

The CityEngine is now also available for Mac OS X and Windows 64-bit. So a warm welcome to all Mac users!

We are happy that our Mac friends are now able to benefit from the huge advantages of the CityEngine. To celebrate it, we created Apple City consisting of thousands of Cupertino headquarters. So in case Mr. Jobs intends to rebuild Cupertino, he has now the tool to plan it on his new MacBook.

The video of Apple City can be also watched here

Other highlights of the upgrade include:
#1:  ATI graphics cards are now also fully supported
#2:  Introduction of city layer editing functionalities
#3:  Several minor improvements such as 100x faster street growth

Please have also a look at our new examples!

Procedural Modeling in the Mix with Watercolor Painting

The Snapshot Painter is an interactive aQatree application and a cooperation between the University of Konstanz, brainPets GbR,and the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie...

Lines crawl out across the screen, searching out contours and filling in shadows hatching and water colors gradually come together to form an artistic interpretation of an 2d input image. Despite the apparent artistic quality there is no guiding hand in this process, it is a realtime image processing and analysis module within aQtree – a stand-alone non-photorealistic renderer.

Have a look at the video how the procedural Pompeii looks like as a watercolor painting. Very cool:

Congratulation to the project team Thomas Luft, David Maas and Tatjana Maas.

CityEngine on MacOS X

CityEngine 2008.3 will run on MacOS X and support 64bit on Windows.

Good new for those working with the "other" major platform: the prototype 2008.3 release of the CityEngine works on MacOS X. Thus for all Mac users out there, in a few weeks you will be able to create cities faster and better than ever.

More good news for the CityEngine users dreaming of (almost) infinite cities: CityEngine 2008.3 will include full 64bit support on the Windows platform. No more memory constraints due to 32bit.

Stay tuned,

Simon
